Let's Work Together
The Crips, originally founded in Los Angeles, CA in the late 1960s, are often recognized primarily for their involvement in gang activity and violence. However, in recent years, there has been a notable shift within some factions of the organization toward community empowerment and promoting a positive lifestyle change. Although, this movement is not universally adopted by all members or factions, nevertheless, for those who support this movement, it represents an important evolution in the narrative surrounding the Crips.
In a historical context, the Crips were initially formed as a response to systemic social issues, including poverty, discrimination, and a lack of community resources. Over the decades, their identity became intertwined with gang violence and crime, leading to a negative perception in the public eye. However, as societal conditions have continued to deteriorate, certain members recognized the need for a paradigm shift- one that could transform the narrative from one of violence to one of empowerment. In a redefined context the organization would focus on positive contributions to society, community empowerment, and support for individuals, especially youth, to steer them away from criminal activities. The New C.R.I.P.S., (Community Resources and Initiative for Positive Support) organization was born out of the same principles and ideas and founded by Kendrick Mason in 2024.
Empowerment Movement Overview
**OBJECTIVES**

The C.R.I.P.S., empowerment movement focuses on several key objectives:
1. Community Development: Individuals work to improve local communities through initiatives like clean-up drives, mentorship programs, and community events. This fosters a sense of pride and ownership amongst residents, encouraging them to take an active role in their environment.
2. Education, Re-Education and Skill Development: Recognizing that education is a pathway to success, some battle-hardened individuals and factions will be resistant to change so we have to establish programs aimed at providing education and re-education, tutoring, vocational training, and life skills workshops. These initiatives are designed to equip individuals with the tools necessary to pursue legitimate career opportunities.
3. Mental Health Awareness: Acknowledging the psychological toll of gang life, there needs to be a growing emphasis on mental health resources. Workshops and support groups organized to help individuals process trauma and develop coping strategies, promoting overall well-being.
4. Conflict Resolution: Through community outreach and partnerships with local organizations, the New C.R.I.P.S. organization members need to be actively involved in conflict resolution initiatives. This includes mediation programs aimed at reducing violence and fostering dialogue among rival groups.
5. Health Initiatives: This empowerment movement includes health awareness campaigns that address issues such as substance abuse, nutrition, and access to healthcare. By promoting healthy living, we can aim to combat the negative health outcomes often associated with unhealthy living habits.
